DR. POWERS' FATHER DIES
Former Michigan Legislator Passes Away at Age of 78 Years James Powers, 78 years old, a veteran of the Civil War and a former member of the Michigan State Legislature, died at the home of his son, the Rev. J. D. O. Powers, pastor of the Peoples Church of this city, yesterday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Powers came to Seattle from their ranch near Climax, Mich., a year ago to make their home with their son. Mr. Powers was a well known figure in Republican political circles in Michigan and held about every office in his county in addition to serving in the State Legislature. He also was a public school teacher for a number of years.
During the Civil War he served with the 12th Michigan Infantry. Mr. and Mrs. Powers recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from the chapel of the Bonney-Watson Undertaking Company. Dr. George J. Grant, who served as a chaplain during the late war, will officiate.
Private Powers’ cremated remains was located at Lake View Cemetery, Seattle, Washington, by Loretta Marie Dimond of Kent Washington. With the assistance of the Missing in America Project, Powers and his wife will be given full military honors at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th Street Kent, WA 98042-4868 on December 10, 2016 at noon.
